Monitoring by Remote Sensing of Flooding in Guadiana river

The Guadiana River Basin Authority has quantified, using satellite imagery, the area affected by the floods in the basin between Orellana and Zújar dams and the city of Badajoz, in the area called Las Vegas del Guadiana between April 2 and 6, 2013.
The rainfall that has caused this flooding event in Las Vegas del Guadiana, has had a very high intensity for the time of the year in which it has occurred (in the last six days of March, the accumulated rainfall has been a 69% above average rainfall throughout the month of March).
According to the flood hydrographs, they have been measured hour peak flows above 5,000 m3/s, which have been moderated to a maximum flow of about 2,000 m3/s. The flood peak occurred throughout the area between April 2 and 3, 2013.
