The Mocoa tragedy from the sky

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

In the early morning hours between March 31 to April 1, 2017, seventeen neighborhoods of the Mocoa city (Putumayo, Colombia) were razed by mudslides caused by heavy rains. The avalanches left 323 dead, 400 injured and hundreds of missing.

Corpoamazonia is a corporation for the sustainable development of the Amazon that, in its objective of improving the quality of life of the communities of this region, is carrying out projects to improve the knowledge of the territory from multispectral flights. The Mocoa tragedy has been able to be mapped in detail, from these remote sensing data, to evaluate the material damages that have occurred and to design prevention plans in their areas for action.

Our Heligrafics partners have been the ones who have carried out this magnificent work and, 72 hours after the tragedy, were already flying the area with the multispectral sensor ADS40.

In the RGB and IR images, with centimeter resolution, you can see the city of Mocoa on January 16 and April 4, 2017.
